I'M COMING
by Shundra M Williams Grubb

I come with life, ingenuity, and God.
with a heart on fire
willing to warm away cold nights
and burn up your insecurities.
I come speaking tongues
of sweet surrender
solemn truths
jazz poetry.
I come dramatically
Loving you hard down into your shoes
Reaching up into your soul
Laying you on my bed
Pouring my essence into your lap.
I come transforming your mind
Upgrading your sensibility
Destroying mythical monsters
Undoing what the last one did
Soothing you into forever...
I come bringing it all—
the thunder. The pain. The sexy. The uh…uhhh…and the oh yes!
I come hard, complicated, and complex
Moaning underneath your
Children unreleased I come
Whispering cool breezes over
Full moons~
I come often, frequently, and consistently
In spastic rhythms that mirror hurricane winds…
Shaking like light earthquakes..wet like tsunami waves…I come crazy like a
natural disaster.
I come apart
I come correct
I come sideways
& I come around…
I come willing,
ready & able.
Prophetically…
I have arrived.

FROM WHICH THERE IS NO TURNING BACK
by Oliver Rice

What she has is this moment
or the next or the next
           a chemistry
           unfinished conversations
           an alphabet
transport to Heidelberg, the rain forests
an affinity for lavender
           for tea
           dunes
           unanswerable songs
words with a secret weight.

An indebtedness to the Magna Carta,
           to Aristotle,
           cinematography
           Chagall
receptors for the senses
detritus of the culture
           carnalities
           meaningless memories
           her utter self
gestures of normality
a voice for soliloquies.
